France au Naturel.
| During the Franco regime in Spain, many thousands of Spanish naturists would spend their annual summer vacations in this region, many more came for only a short weekend break or just a day out. They found Languedoc a place which was close to home, similar not only for its Mediterranean sunshine, but many others aspects too. Here, in Languedoc, they could relax and enjoy the pleasures of naturism without fear of prosecution from the Spanish authorities, thank heavens times have now changed and this scenario is now no longer a fact of life. In fact Spain, is fast becoming the naturist Mecca of Europe if not the world, so far have things advanced since those awful times. The Languedoc region of France of course lies just north of the Spanish border, and still, it is enjoyed by many Spaniards and tourists from many other destinations world wide, it is a region with a coast line filled not only by a quantity of naturist beaches, but by the quality of them too! Lets explore then, the best this coastline has to offer. |

Languedoc
stretches from the north at Le
Grau-du-Roi all the way to the
Spanish-French border. Your first stop is without a doubt Cap d' Agde beach and
complex. The complex is described in
tourists brochures as Sun City, to many
naturist family's this place is better
known nowadays as Sin City. |

| About
10 km west of Cap d`Agde, between the
town of Vias and La Rèdoute, is Vias
Plage, a good unofficial beach that is
shared with textiles from the nearby
California camping and beach, naturists
predominate except during school
holidays. Clos de
Ferrand & Serigman G.C.M. are two
small naturist camps laying between
Valras Plage and Serigman Plage, access
to naturist beach is unfortunately via one
of these two camps, expensive and I.N.F
pass is needed, North of St. Pierre sur Mer, one finds the very popular naturist campsite La Grande Cosse, with its beach close at hand. Between Narbonne Plage and camping Cote de Roses, there is a section of the beach used by naturists from nearby campsite, has plenty of room to wander about nude. |

About a
mile east of Gruissan Plage, naturism
once again takes hold and becomes the
norm, can also be accessed from Narbonne
east. Just south of Port Nouvelle, a fine stretch of sand is enjoyed by many naturists, this beach is very close to Le Clapotis, which lies a little inland near the town of Lapalme, the place is signposted and INF passes are required. At Port Leucate, you will find an amazing beach with no less than three naturist campsites all in a row; Oasis, Aphrodite and Ulysse, Aphrodite also boasts of mooring facilities for naturists. The beach just north of Argeles, is enjoyed by many nude bathers, in fact, any undeveloped piece of the coastline in this region, is fit for naturism and usually you will not be alone. |

Cap d'Agde
I have been to Cap d'Agde several times, and will be back there again in
August.
Cap d'Agde itself is a resort town like any other, and attracts
thousands of tourists during the summer. At the east end of the town is the Naturist Quarter (Quartier Naturiste). At its peak, there will be about
40,000 people there, so it really is a community into itself.
Housing is in apartments and villas, as well as a huge camping area.
Most of the apartments are owned by individuals, who rent them for all or
part of the summer through one of several rental agencies in the Naturist
Quarter. The largest of these is Genevieve Naturisme, which has a web site at www.genevievenaturisme.com. I would suggest checking there (click on the British flag for information in English).
It's late to be reserving for this summer, so your options may be
limited, but it doesn't hurt to try.
The Naturist Quarter itself is like a town, with the usual amenities,
such as shops and restaurants, plus one of the nicest beaches you'll find
anywhere. It differs from other towns because it is entirely clothing
optional (except for the pools and beach, where nudity is obligatory,
although this isn't always enforced).
During the day, nudity is the norm. During the evening, you will find
that almost all people dress, if they are away from their apartment area,
although there is no obligation to do so. In the restaurants, many people
will be nude at lunch, far fewer at dinner. I have gone for several days at
a time without anything on at all.
As for an admission fee.. There is a main gate as you enter the Naturist
Quarter. You will need to buy an admission card for the length of your stay, but it is not expensive. The rental agency will help you with that.
